Claire Joa

My teaching and research interests focus on media effects, particularly in the context of digital and social media communication. I teach various courses in Digital Media and Entertainment, including Digital Media Industries and Digital Social Media and Society. In my ongoing research projects, I am investigating behavioral contagion on social media, self-directed learning through social media, and the impact of emerging technologies on learning and health promotion. My work has been published in several highly respected, peer-reviewed journals, including Computers in Human Behavior, Behaviour & Information Technology, Online Information Review, Journalism Practice, and Journal of Interactive Advertising. I enjoy employing various research methods, combining innovative techniques like social big data analysis, sentiment analysis, and network analysis with traditional quantitative methods to explore and enhance understanding of the societal impact of emerging communication technologies.
